By Deputy Chief Jonathan Riffe
December 15, 2020

On Tuesday December 15 at 0742 hours Dunkirk VFD Zodiac 5, Special Unit 5 and both Deputy Chiefs responded to assist Huntingtown VFD units at Kings Landing Park with a duck hunter stuck in the mud possibly suffering from hypothermia.

Additionally, North Beach VFD Gator 1, Public Safety Gator 20, MSP Trooper 7, rescue boats from Prince Georges County Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources were dispatched to the scene.

The location of the hunter was eventually determined to be in the Cocktown Creek. After a brief search in the Smoky Road Natural Resource Management Area, the hunter was located stuck waist deep in the mud along the bank of the creek. Firefighters from Huntingtown VFD, Dunkirk VFD and the Department of Natural Resources were able to rescue the hunter. Gator 1 transported the patient to an awaiting EMS crew for evaluation.
