On Saturday March 18, 2017 at 0751 hours, crews from the Dunkirk VFD were alerted to 3725 Robinson Road in Huntingtown MD for the House Fire. While responding to the incident, Dunkirk VFD Tanker 5 overturned on Robinson Road. Lieutenant Marty Sealey was operating the tanker at the time of the crash with Lieutenant John Faulkner as the OIC. Lt. Sealey was transported by MSP Trooper 2 to MedStar in Washington, D.C. in critical but stable condition. Lt. Faulkner was initially transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. However, he was subsequently transferred to MedStar in Washington, D.C., where he was also listed in critical but stable condition. A preliminary investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff's Department revealed that as Tanker 5 was progressing through a curve on Robinson Road a tire failure, with a “blowout” and full tread separation, occurred. At this time the investigation into the cause of tire failure is ongoing; however, it is apparent that the tire failure is a factor that significantly contributed to this collision. As of this evening, both Lieutenant Sealey & Faulkner have been released from the hospital and are recovering. The Dunkirk VFD extends its deep appreciation and thanks for the support, outreach and prayers. |
