On January 14th, Engine 52 took a fill in at Joppa-Magnolia VFC for their annual awards banquet. Engine 52 (crew of 4) was stationed at House#3 (Fort Hanson) with Five Points Fire Company Ladder 17 (Wilmington, DE). Both fill in crews ran a few medical calls, including an overdose and a MVC.

At 0634 hours, crews were alerted for a Townhouse Fire in the neighboring jurisdiction of Abingdon. Engine 52 was dispatched as 3rd due Engine Company and Ladder 17 was dispatched as 1st due Truck Company.

Engine 52 and Ladder 17 both arrived on scene as 1st due, with a 2 story Middle of Group Townhouse with light smoke showing on side Alpha. Ladder 17 took side Alpha position and laddered the roof while Engine 52 laid out from the hydrant at the top of the court. The crew from Ladder 17 and Engine 52 took interior divisions to investigate, while the lineman of Engine 52 stood by with the 1.5" attack line at the front door.

After investigating, crews determined the cause to be a malfunctioning furnace and held the assignment with Engine 52 and Ladder 17. Crews cleared the box approx. at 0715 to return to Quarters.
