Today at 1221 hours, Engine 5, Truck 5, Chief 5C, and Chief 5 were sent to 9900 Kirksville Ln. in Dunkirk for the odor of smoke. The Dunkirk Volunteers arrived to find smoke showing from the basement of a split level house. Engine 5 advanced an 1.5” into the basement to find a laundry room on fire while Truck 5 took care of throwing ladders, opening up for the wagon, and venting the house. Engine 6 (HVFD) took care of some extension to the first floor while units operated in the basement.

**This fire is a textbook example of the saying “Close Before You Doze”. This played a huge part in keeping this particular fire contained to the room of origin. Note the minimal damage to the door on the hallway side versus the fire room side.
