At 0550 hours this morning, Engine 52, Tanker 5, Chief 5B, and the Fire Chief responded to 30 Chesapeake Avenue in Dares Beach for smoke in the house. First arriving units had smoke showing from a two-story single family residence.

Upon entry, the first and second floors were banked down with smoke, revealing a working fire in the basement. Engine companies made an interior attack on the fire simultaneously while searches and ventilation were executed. One occupant was treated for smoke inhalation and 5 dogs were turned over to animal control.

*Notice what a closed door does. There was absolutely no fire damage beyond the basement door.*

Side note: 2 hours after clearing the above run, Dunkirk VFD Truck 5, Tanker 5, Chief 5A, Chief 5B & the Fire Chief responded to a dwelling fire in the Anne Arundel 9-04 Box. Units found a small fire in the walls of the residence. The Dunkirk Volunteers operated for one hour.
