Two Trapped in Fatal Dump Truck Accident |

This afternoon at 1309 hours, Squad 5, Ambulance 58, the Assistant Chief (Chief 5A), Deputy Chief (Chief 5C) & both Safety Officers were dispatched to a serious accident at Route 2 & C Jones Road in Sunderland. The Dunkirk Volunteer FD arrived first on the scene and found 2 dump trucks, a pick-up truck and passenger vehicle involved. An elderly couple were both trapped in the passenger vehicle. Chief 5A established the Command with Chief 5C as the Extrication Group Supervisor. The 6-man Squad crew went to work assessing both patients and began extrication. During the process, it was determined that the passenger was a priority 4. The driver was a trauma code and CPR was began. Squad 5’s crew removed both drivers side doors to free the driver in less than 5 minutes. Ambulance 58 assisted with the priority 1 patient. Squad 5 remained on the scene for several hours assisting with Accident Reconstruction. During this incident Ambulance 58 (cleared the scene) & Brush 5 handled a separate medical local. |
