As the DUNKIRK VOLUNTEERS were wrapping up lunch this afternoon, the Box was dispatched for a House on Fire at 3211 Smiths Retreat, in Chesapeake Beach. Unfortunately Safety Officer 1 (P.O'Conner) gave the immediate return of a working fire as this was his residence. This brought Chief 5A (E.Holzberger), Rescue Squad 5(Sgt. Groce), Engine 51(Lt. Sines), Tanker 5(F.Holzberger), and Amb.5(Griffiths) to the scene. Engine 1 went on location with a 2 story SFD with fire through the roof. Units from DUNKIRK arrived shortly after Engine 1, and went to work. The crews split up and advanced lines to the basement where they encountered heavy fire conditions, as well as assisted units on the upper levels. Despite the hard work of all members on scene all personell had to be evacuated due to a pending roof collapse. Tower 1 set up for heavy duty operations, and knocked down the bulk of remaining fire. Command then sent units back inside to take care of hotspots, salvage, and overhaul.
